The Power of Your Tribe: Why Community is Everything
The Power of Your Tribe: Why Community is Everything
Let's talk about community. You know, that whole idea of finding your tribe, your squad, the people who just get you. From day one, we're part of a family, and that’s our first taste of what it means to belong to a community. Fast forward to adulthood, and we're either nurturing our own little families or finding our people in other areas of life.
The Unexpected Joy of Work Buddies
I had this really cool moment the other day. I was walking through the city enjoying the brisk air (actually I had just finished going live on Instagram), when out of the blue, I bumped into an old pal. We had done a show together ages ago. We’ve been in the same circles, seen each other's ups and downs, but it had been a while since we last caught up.
He literally stopped traffic to run over in the middle of the street (no traffic coming btw) and give me a hug. That, my friends, is the magic of real connection and community. It's about having folks who’ve got your back, no matter how much time has passed.
Why Bother With Community?
But why is this whole community thing a big deal? Well, it's not just about having a laugh and making memories. It’s about surrounding yourself with a support system for both your personal and professional life. Imagine having a bunch of people who are on the same wavelength as you, ready to offer advice, share their wisdom, and cheer you on as you chase your dreams.
Community is like the secret sauce to growing and thriving. It’s about finding or building your own crew of people who share your vision of making a bit of a dent in the universe.
Let’s Get Into Action: Building Your Community
Alright, so how do you actually get this community ball rolling? Here are some straightforward steps to get you mingling and building connections that count:
1. Figure Out What Fires You Up: What are you passionate about? What values are non-negotiable for you? Knowing this will help you find your people.
2. Dive Into Events and Workshops: Get out there and attend events or workshops that resonate with your interests. It’s a great way to meet folks who are on the same page as you.
3. Tap Into Online Groups: The internet is a goldmine for finding communities. Join forums, social media groups, or any platform where your tribe might hang out. Speaking of which, you can join my FB group, for example: James Barbour's Star Power Group (http://www.facebook.com/groups/starpowernow). It’s a space to share, support, and lift up on our journeys through life. In fact, discussions like this happen all the time in the group.
4. Give Back Through Volunteering: Volunteering for causes you care about can connect you with others who are just as passionate. Plus, it feels good to do good, right?
5. Why Not Start Your Own Group? If you can’t seem to find a community that fits, make your own. Host a meetup, create a Facebook group, or organize an event. You might be surprised by how many people are looking for the same thing.
6. Be a Giver, Not Just a Taker: Communities thrive on give-and-take. Share your skills, offer support, and be there for others. It’s all about lifting each other up.
7. Keep the Conversation Going: Building lasting relationships takes effort. Follow up with the people you meet, engage in conversations, and show up consistently.
Wrapping It Up
Community isn’t just a nice-to-have; it’s a must-have. It’s about connecting with people who brighten your world, inspire you to be better, and support you as you chase those big, bold dreams. Remember, the path to achieving your goals is way more fun, and a lot less bumpy, when you’ve got your tribe cheering you on. So go out there, find your community, and let’s make some magic happen together!
